At Reflex Sports, we believe it’s important to do our bit to preserve the health of our planet for future generations. We go to considerable lengths to be an eco-friendly company and reduce our impact on the environment.
We’re proud to share that we’ve recently gone through strict auditing by our certification body, the Soil Association, and once again passed with flying colours! This means that we can continue to claim that we meet all of the relevant FSC and PEFC standards, something that we’ve been able to do since 2009.
This certification means that our customers can be sure that the timber-based products we provide them with are Chain of Custody Certified. This means that everyone in the supply chain must also have annual audits - from the people working in the forest right through to ourselves. Every piece of timber we use comes from sources that have been responsibly managed.
Why is this auditing important?
Sports flooring material consists of both wood and synthetic materials. In such large volumes, there is potential to do a lot of harm to the environment if sustainable choices aren’t made. Natural wood production relies on sustainable forestry practices, which is essential for balancing the need for natural materials with the benefits that forests have on capturing carbon. Synthetic fibres use raw materials derived from fossil fuels and production leads to more carbon emissions.
In order to achieve certification, we have to demonstrate that all of the forest-based materials and products that we purchase and sell as FSC or PEFC certified originate from well-managed forests and/or controlled sources. We have to prove that our purchases are legitimate and accurate.
Maintaining certification is an ongoing process
Each year, an inspector from the Soil Association will visit our warehouses and offices to perform a thorough check of our documentation.
As part of this comprehensive check, we must have written procedures in place to cover things such as:
checking supplier certificates/certification
ensuring we are using the logos and trademarks correctly
checking our use of outsourcers (storage companies/subcontractors/hauliers)
looking at our timber purchases and sales and checking documentation from our material suppliers, through all processes, to our customers. This is to ensure we are not making any claims for materials without a chain of custody.
Ensuring we are adhering to all the items in the relevant/current FSC and PEFC Standards.
We’re proud to be the only sports flooring installers in the UK who have FSC® (Forestry Stewardship Council) & PEFC™ Chain of Custody Certification. You can read more about it on the Soil Association website.
